The Newsletter of

MCC Manchester

Sunday 4th November 2007

Welcome to this newsletter and to the ministry of MCC Manchester.  If this is your first contact with us, know that you are welcome.  You can take part in our ministry through attending our worship services or mid week meetings, or by using the various resources on our website.  You can keep in touch with us in person, by email, or by text.  It is our prayer that our people grow as committed disciples of the Lord Jesus.

Today's Service marked All Saints Day which actually fell on Thursday.  Andy highlighted both Catholic and Protestant views of what a saint is, and showed that we are all saints – and are called to live lives of holiness.  He said that whilst the saints were undoubtedly they were also very human and struggled with all the human frailties that we do.

This and That  Thanks to Neil, Steve, Philip, Susan, Megan, Anna  and Mark who came to our Come and Sing day yesterday learning new songs we will be singing in December and the New Year.  Our Emmaus Group is having a short break and meets next on Thursday 29th November at Gwen and Margaret’s home in Altrincham.  This is a small group meeting together to study and get to know each other.  See them for more details.  If you would like to sing or play an instrument in worship see Neil or Philip – we are always looking for more people to get involved.  The main commitment - other than helping to lead the singing and music in worship – is to be at church for 3pm to rehearse.

Thanks.  Thank you for your generosity last  week.    44 people worshipped with us and the collection was £106.  This is on top of the £1500 or so a month that is given directly to our bank account via

standing order.  73 attended MCC Manchester at least once in October this year compared to 52 who did so in September last year. Thank you as well for the £100 raised for the new MCC plant starting in January in Glasgow.  A few more people wanted to give to this project so we haven’t sent the money yet – if you still would like to give please let Andy have the money then we can send this off.

Annual General Meeting.   Each year we have our AGM on the second Sunday of Advent whilst St Chrysostom’s host the Victoria Park Carol Service.  This year our AGM falls on Sunday 9th December.  We will consider the pastor’s report for 2007, accounts for 2006, and for the first 10 months of 2007, elect new members to our Board and a lay delegate.  We will, therefore, NOT be serving refreshments after church on that Sunday.  Instead we will travel to Sedgley Park Police College (lifts available) for a Christmas Dinner, AGM and concert from Neil.  There will also be a bar open for the evening where we can buy drinks.  The cost for the meal is £18 (unwaged £10) but we don’t want to exclude anyone on the grounds of cost.  If the reduced price is problematic please speak to Andy.

Elections  We have elections for three positions on our Board of Directors.  Each post is for two years.  The Board share, with Andy, the leadership of the church in the areas of finance, policy and administration.  They meet at least four times a year and do much work by email.  Our constitution lays down exacting criteria for Board members and these are outlined on the nomination forms.  Similarly we will elect a lay delegate to serve as our representative to Fellowship and Regional Conferences.  The Lay Delegate is not a member of the Board but attends Board meetings and takes a full part in the discussions.  Nomination forms are at the back of church, or can be emailed to you, and should be completed and returned to Andy well before the AGM.

Andy's Movements this Week  Andy is working from both home and church this week on.  He is available on Monday afternoon, Tuesday  and Thursday morning.  He has a meeting on Thursday afternoon, takes the service at the police college on Monday lunchtime and sits in court on Wednesday.
