This Week

Quiet and Calm

We meet at 8pm on Tuesday in the side chapel for our monthly Quiet and Calm service.  This is a chance to relax in God’s presence, feel the stress and strain of he day and the week ease away, meet the Lord in a simple celebration of Holy Communion and to be prayed for and anointed with Holy Oil.

Prayer Requests

Did you know you can text and receive prayer requests to us.  All you need to do is to text your prayer request to us at: 07781 472445.  If you wish to receive prayer requests please text and tell us!

Daily Devotional

We produce a daily prayer devotional which is given out each week in church.  It has a Psalm, prayer, reading, thought for the day and prayer suggestions for every day of the week.  It normally follows the themes we are looking at in our weekly sermons, but also usually has one reading from one of the saints commemorated by the world wide Church.

Birthdays in September

Sermons on Line

Missed church on Sunday?  Don’t worry, you can catch up with the sermon by going to our website, www.mccmanchester.co.uk and pressing the sermon button.  This means you don’t miss the weekly teaching designed to help us live as more faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus.

As well as reading the sermon you can now listen to it as a “podcast”.  If you click on the audio download button in the worship section of the navigation bar you will be taken to the relevant page.  You can listen on line or by opposite clicking and saving the file you can listen on your computer or even save to an MP3 player and listen whilst in the car, at the gym or when having a walk.

You can also download the weekly devotional booklet there too.

Borrow A Book

Visit our library and see if there is a book you would like to borrow.  Simply email Andy your choice and pick it up at church on Sunday.  We ask for a donation of £2 per book and a small deposit per book.

WELCOME

Welcome to this newsletter and to the ministry of MCC Manchester.  If this is your first contact with us, know that you are welcome.  You can take part in our ministry through visiting us as we worship each week or by using our resources on our website.  You can keep in touch with us through email, in person or by text.  It is our prayer that our people grow as committed disciples of the Lord Jesus.

TODAY'S SERMON

Today we welcomed the Rev Jane Clarke as our guest preacher.  Jane has just finished 12 years as pastor of the MCC in East London and, with her partner Kate, has moved to Glasgow and hopes to set up a new MCC congregation in that city.  Jane preached about mission and Jesus sending out the 72 disciples.  The Board will be looking at ways in which we can support this new fledgling congregation when it starts.

THANKS

Thank you for your generosity last week.  Last week 36 people attended worship and the collection was £138.50 on top of the £1500 or so that is sent by standing order to our bank each month.   62 people attended MCC Manchester at least once in August.

EMMAUS GROUP STARTS

Gwen and Margaret are hosting our new home group at their home in Altrincham.  It will start this Thursday at 7.30 (and ends at 9.30) and then meet every other week.  They will be following a course on prayer taken from the Emmaus resources developed by the Church of England.  The course takes us through the Lord’s prayer and gives plenty of time for discussion, reflection, and prayer.  If you want more details, or directions!, please call Gwen and Margaret on 0161 941 5670.

SOCIAL ACTION TEAM STARTS

Steve Gray is setting up a new social action group to co-ordinate the different areas of social action we involve ourselves in.  Over the years we have become good at sending letters to oppressive governments on behalf of Amnesty and taken part in the Christmas greeting card campaign that they organise.  We have also campaigned for Moses to stay in the UK.  Steve will be producing a monthly newsletter which will be sent to all those who sign up for this new ministry, the newsletter will some selected cases of prisoners on conscience or other areas where we can write letters to make a difference.  The newsletter will suggest a model for such letters.  Sometimes we think that writing letters is rather ineffective but a released prisoner of conscience from Vietnam wrote: We could always tell when international protests were taking place... the food rations increased and the beatings were fewer."  If you are interested in this please see Steve or email him via socialaction@mccmanchester.co.uk.

THIS AND THAT

Our monthly Quiet and Calm service takes place on Tuesday in the side chapel at 8pm.  This is an intentional time of rest and reflection where we share in an informal celebration of Holy Communion and there is time for prayer and anointing.  The service gives lots of time for silence and reflection.   We are always looking for more choir members and musicians.  If you would like to sing with us, the commitment is to get to church for 3pm and join in the pre-service choir practice where we run through the songs for that day.  We also arrange some “Come and Sing” Days where we learn new material.  We hope to organise one of these for early November – again this is a good time to come and try your voice out and see if you would like to join the choir.  Similarly we always are looking out for musicians – of any instrument – who would like to help deliver the musical aspects of worship.  If you are interested please see Philip, Andy or Neil.

ANDY'S MOVEMENTS THIS WEEK

Due to Ian’ recovery Andy will be working a lot of the time at home.  He will be in the office on Monday morning.  Please contact Andy, if you need to, via email or the church phone.  He will pick up messages each day.  You can contact Andy via 0161 249 0649 or on his email revandy@mccmanchester.co.uk
