The Newsletter of

MCC Manchester

Sunday 20th January 2008

Welcome to this newsletter and to the ministry of MCC Manchester.  If this is your first contact with us, know that you are welcome.  You can take part in our ministry through attending our worship services or mid week meetings, or by using the various resources on our website.  You can keep in touch with us in person, by email, or by text.  It is our prayer that our people grow as committed disciples of the Lord Jesus.

Today's Service  reflects on an encounter between John the Baptist and Jesus where John recognised Jesus for who he is straight away – in stark contrast to most of the disciples in the Gospels.  Andy went on to look at the first two disciples who followed Jesus so attracted were they to Jesus’ message and ministry.

This and That  We are having a special guest preacher on Sunday 4th February, Hermione McEwen from the Immigration Aid Unit.  We will be raising funds for the Unit again during Lent this year – we have given over £900 to them so far – and Hermione will be speaking about the work of the Unit and where our funds go.  Please make sure you are here to listen to Hermione who is an excellent speaker.    If you haven’t yet completed our congregational survey please do so!  We have had 43 responses back so far which is wonderful.  Our Quiet and Calm service takes place this Tuesday in the social room at 8pm.  Please come to the side door on Anson Road in good time for 8pm (as the buzzer disrupts the quietness!).  Next Sunday is Holocaust Memorial Day and Fr Ian and St Chrysostom’s are marking this with a special service at 6.30pm.  Any of us who wish to stay to this service are warmly welcome.

Thanks.  Thank you for your generosity last week.    42 people worshipped with us and the collection was £329.  This is on top of the £1500 or so a month that is given directly to our bank account via standing order.

Forthcoming Events.  We are having an evening for anyone who has started to attend recently.  This will be on Tuesday 29th, again at 8pm.  It is an evening designed to give information about MCC and to help us get to know each other a bit better.  Let Andy know if you plan to come along.  We are planning to hold a Come and Sing day for the choir, and anyone else who wants to learn some new songs, on Saturday 1st March from 11am until 4pm.  Please let Neil know if you wish to attend.  We hope to have an evening looking at the Bible, Sexuality and Gender in mid February – we just need to confirm the date.  We also hope to have a Membership class on Saturday 8th March from 11 until 4pm.  Again, please let Andy know if you wish to attend.
