The Newsletter of

MCC Manchester

Sunday 21st October 2007

Welcome to this newsletter and to the ministry of MCC Manchester.  If this is your first contact with us, know that you are welcome.  You can take part in our ministry through attending our worship services or mid week meetings, or by using the various resources on our website.  You can keep in touch with us in person, by email, or by text.  It is our prayer that our people grow as committed disciples of the Lord Jesus.

Today's Service finished our sermon series based on insights from Madonna’s songs that we started before Andy’s holiday.  We looked at the song “Material World” and considered the rampant culture of materialism that we live in and how we as Christians can respond to this and make our world a better place.

This and That  On Tuesday evening we have a welcome and introduction evening for those people who have recently starting coming along – although it is open to everyone!  We will get to know each other a bit better and find out more about MCC Manchester’s ministry and ways of doing things as well as our links with our wider denomination.    Our next Come and Sing Day is going to be held on 3rd November between 11am and 4pm.  It is a chance to try out your singing skills, learn new songs and get to know each other better.  See Philip or Neil for more details.    Our Emmaus Group meets next on Thursday 25th October at Gwen and Margaret’s home in Altrincham.  This is a small group meeting together to study and get to know each other.  See them for more details.  If you would like to sing or play an instrument in worship see Neil or Philip – we are always looking for more people to get involved.  The main commitment - other than helping to lead the singing and music in worship – is to be at church for 3pm to rehearse.

Thanks.  Thank you for your generosity in recent weeks.  On 30th September 34 people attended worship and the collection was £165.  On 7th October 29 people attended and the collection was £99.50 and last week, 14th October, 44 people attended giving £120.50 in the collection.  This is on top of the £1500 or so a month that is given directly to our bank account via standing order.  63 attended MCC Manchester at least once in September this year compared to 46 who did so in September last year.

Fellowship Sunday.  Next week we celebrate the 39th anniversary of MCC starting.  The Rev Troy Perry, an excommunicated former Pentecostal pastor, started a church in his front room and 12 people showed up.  Now we have 300 churches around the world.  Troy’s vision was to start a church where all would be welcomed and which would proclaim Christian salvation, build Christian community and engage in Christian social action.  This is the vision that has energised every generation of MCC since we started and which guides the work of this congregation.  To mark Fellowship Sunday we will have a second collection to raise some funds for the new MCC congregation being started in Glasgow by the Rev Jane Clarke and her partner Kate Wood.  Jane preached for us in September and the Board felt it would be good to mark Fellowship Sunday by raising some funds for this new outreach in the UK.

Andy's Movements this Week  Andy is working from home on Monday, Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon.  He should be in the office on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Daily Devotional

You can get our daily devotional in church or on our website.  It is designed to help us grow spiritually by giving a resource for our own daily prayer times.  It consists of a short "order of worship" of a Psalm, other Biblical reading and a reflection.  It also gives ideas of things to pray for.

Birthdays This Month

Gwen’s was 60 on the 16th and Jasmine’s is tomorrow.

On Our Website

Our website is an excellent way to keep in touch with what we are doing.  You can catch up with the sermon, and listen to it, if you missed church, you can download the daily devotional, read the newsletters, visit the church blog, do some quizes and find out more about us.
