Daily
Devotional
We
produce a daily prayer devotional which is given out each week
in church. It has a Psalm, prayer, reading, thought for
the day and prayer suggestions for every day of the
week. It normally follows the themes we are looking at
in our weekly sermons, but also usually has one reading from
one of the saints commemorated by the world wide
Church.
Sermons
on Line
Missed
church on Sunday? Don’t worry, you can catch up with the
sermon by going to our website, www.mccmanchester.co.uk
and pressing the sermon button. This means you don’t
miss the weekly teaching designed to help us live as more
faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus. You can also
download the weekly devotional booklet there
too.

WELCOME |
|
Welcome
to this newsletter and to the ministry of MCC
Manchester. If this is your first contact with us, know
that you are welcome. You can take part in our ministry
through visiting us as we worship each week or by using our
resources on our website. You can keep in touch with us
through email, in person or by text. It is our prayer
that our people grow as committed disciples of the Lord
Jesus.

TODAY'S
SERMON |
|
Dan looked at
the story of Thomas – known to history as doubting Thomas –
the disciple who wasn’t with the others when the Risen Lord
first appeared. Thomas said he would only believe if he
could see with his own eyes. Jesus did appear to him but
said that he had seen because he had believed but said that we
would be blessed who believe without
seeing.

THANKS |
|
Thank you for
your generosity last week. The collection in church came
to £150.50 in addition to the £1400 given to the bank each
month. 39 people attended worship. So far in
April at least 65 people have worshipped with us one or more;
our average attendance on Sundays has been 38.

SMARTIE
TUBES DUE BACK |
|
Throughout Lent we
have been collecting money in Smartie tubes for the Greater
Manchester Immigration Aid Unit. Now Lent is over it’s time to
collect the tubes, count the money and write the cheque! We
have already had over £350 given and we hope that this figure will
continue to rise. You may know that the Government has made
significant changes to the Legal Aid system which will give a flat
payment to solicitors regardless of the amount of time spent on a
particular case. Asylum cases are very complex and a lot of
time needs to be spent with each client. We know that Moses’
case took a lot of time and effort from Hermione and her
colleagues. The flat rate that the Government will pay will
not reflect this and will force many firms to abandon legal aid work
with asylum seekers. It is more important than ever for us to
help support the GMIAU. If you haven’t been collecting you may
like to make a donation anyway, or you may like to top up your
Smartie tube donations a bit to help with this vital work.

THIS
AND THAT |
|
Please pray for the
members of MCC Bournemouth. Their pastor, the Rev Dwayne Morgan, has called a
special general meeting to affirm him as pastor and the direction he
is leading the church. This is the culmination of a period of
sustained conflict. Please pray for Dwayne as he prepares for
this meeting and for the congregation to affirm the way in which
Dwayne believes God is leading MCC
Bournemouth. St Chrysostom’s are planning to
install a new sound
system in Church in the early Summer. This will be
able to cope with both spoken and sung voices and will also have an
induction loop for those who use hearing aids. This will, once
we have learnt to use it, enhance our worship as well as St
Chrysostom’s. You may have noticed our church advert in the Out
NorthWest Magazine. We received grant funding to pay some of
this and Dan designed an excellent advert for us.
Dan and some others went out today at lunchtime to put up church posters and give out publicity
cards in the Gay Village. He
hopes to do this on a monthly basis and get a small group together
who would be willing to go with him. If you are interested
please see Dan. If anyone has an old mobile phone and charger
they are not using we know of someone who needs one. Please
let Andy know. |

SURVEY |
|
In the Summer we hope
to start two new mid week activities – a home group and a weekly
service. Many churches have mid week groups to give a chance
to study the faith, pray, and socialise together. We hope to
have a group led and hosted by Margaret and Gwen in
Altrincham. We would also like to expand on our monthly Quiet
and Calm service into a weekly service “Sacred Chill”. This
would have a similar format of gentle music, space for silent prayer
and meditation and a relaxed gentle space. We would include
the Eucharist, adoration, prayers for healing and prayers for the
world over the course of each month. We hope to offer this on
Tuesday evenings. The first stage in our planning for this is
to survey the views of the congregation. You can offer you
feedback on line by going to our website and then, from the front
page, going to our survey page.
