Access:

There are ramps to the main doors with a very gentle incline meaning disabled people can easily enter the church without requiring extra assistance. A pew has been removed from the back creating a play area for children; wheelchairs could easily go into this area so that those who use them don’t feel they are sticking out into an aisle. Wheelchair users can also “park” in the side aisles. There is a dedicated disabled loo near one of the church halls.

Area:

Chorlton is a popular residential area approximately three miles (as the crow flies) from the city centre.  The centre of Chorlton is a cosmopolitan area with a vibrant shopping and entertainment centre at the junction of Wilbraham Road and Barlow Moor Road and along Beech Road. Chorlton is made up of a diverse community with many active interest groups. The number of festivals that take place throughout the year highlights the diverse make up of the area which is characterised in parts by the old village green, trees and a large part of the ward that falls into a Conservation Area. There are a number of open spaces within the ward including Beech Road Park and Chorlton nature reserve. It has many bars and cafes and has a large lesbian and gay sub-culture. It is safe and served with excellent public transport links. The church is on one of the four main roads into Chorlton just as the residential part starts. It is located at the junction of Wilbraham Road and Egerton Road South, and is near bars and cafes as well as the large Morrison’s supermarket.

The map above shows the location of Chorlton in relation to the city centre.  The 'X' in the red box indicates the location of Wilbraham Saint Ninian's Church.

Public Transport:

Work on the Chorlton extension to the Metrolink has started and, in Spring 2011, is scheduled to stop outside St Ninian’s! Currently it is a 20 minute walk from Stretford Metrolink Station to the church. The following buses connect with Chorlton on Sunday afternoons and either stop outside the church or just a three minute walk away:

Parking:

Parking is plentiful on the streets around the church. There are restrictions on Wilbraham road only around junctions (where it is illegal to park anyway!). There is plenty of parking on Egerton Road South and North. There is also plenty of parking in Morrisons – just a three minute walk away. There is space for cars for disabled drivers on the forecourt of the church.
